The WilloughVale Inn on Lake Willoughby in Vermont
Romantic Day Trips

Day 1

We woke up to a beautiful sunrise in our private cottage with a majestic view of the lake! Cooked a delicious breakfast and sat down to enjoy the gorgeous day and a hot cup of coffee on the deck. Drove to the local Evansville Store to purchase picnic supplies before hiking to the Fire Tower on Bald Mountain. Amazing panoramic views allowed us to really enjoy the landscape and catch a glimpse of the ever-elusive Peregrine Falcon! Headed back to the Inn to enjoy some waterfront activities and decided to swim out to the water trampoline. After bouncing around for a bit we paddled along the nearby shore of the lake in one of the Inn’s canoes before deciding to take pleasure relaxing in the chaise lounge chairs along the beach! Ate dinner at the Parker Pie – best pizza in the Kingdom! Enjoyed a peaceful cozy nights sleep in our cottage.

Day 2

Upon waking we ate some local fruits from a nearby farmers’ market, followed by a brisk walk to the public beach. We headed to the Stone House Museum in Brownington. This museum was first a school built by Alexander Twilight, the first black graduate from Middlebury College who also served as a US Legislator. Upon leaving the Museum we drove to East Charlston to hike the Lang Brook Nature Trail for an educational tour of glacial geology and wildlife habitats leading to our fantastic afternoon picnic! Who knew we could learn so much on a self-guided hike. Back to the Inn for some fun in the sun! After splashing around in our motorboat we rented from the Inn, we headed back to our cottage to cook some burgers on our own grill. As the night winded down we decided to rent a movie from the Inn’s DVD library while enjoying our fireplace.

Day 3

Another day full of fun awaited us as we woke up for an early coffee and light breakfast. A scenic ride through the beautiful Vermont Mountains to Jay Peak and we were on our way to experience an indoor water park like no other. The Pump House Water Park had its retractable roof open as the rays of sun pounded us while floating down the activity river! Lunch at The Club House Bar and Grill was just enough to satisfy our hunger but not slow us down as we ventured back to the water park! The 60 foot free fall of La Chute is one of a kind and definitely a must ride more than once! After leaving The Pump House we headed back towards the Inn and stopped in Newport to eat dinner at the staff recommended Lago Trattoria for a fantastic filling meal! As we left Newport we headed back to the WilloughVale Inn for some star gazing on a clear evening.

Tree Climbing in Danville

Day 4

Woke up looking forward to our exciting day ahead! We quickly threw together some fruits and muffins for breakfast before heading out. Excited to climb trees we were on our way to Twin Pines Recreational Tree Climbing in Danville. After a quick instruction on our “saddle”, safety, and climbing techniques we were headed to the top! The thrill of being suspended by a “saddle” and rope while climbing a tree was exhilarating. Our next stop was Fairbanks Museum in St. Johnsbury. A beautiful array of animals and birds was no less astonishing than the only planetarium housed in Vermont! Heading back to the Inn we stopped at the Miss Lyndonville Diner for a quick lunch – great home cooked food and very cool atmosphere! After lunch it was back to the Inn for some more fun on the lake, we sailed the Sunfish and jumped one last time on the water trampoline before heading back in for dinner. Gil’s Bar and Grill was an added bonus to our stay. As we ate at the Inn’s fantastic restaurant, we reflected back on the great time we had staying at the WilloughVale Inn and Cottages! After dinner we headed down to the waterfront for s-mores at the fire pit as we enjoyed our last night in the Kingdom!
